A few years ago I heard a superstitious rhyme that pertained to counting ravens, crows or magpies:
One for sorrow,I thought it was delightful, and last summer, I took a real fancy to the phrase, 'a secret never to be told'. Thus Seven Ravens became my emblem, but one day, as I was looking for pictures that had seven ravens in them, I came across an older version of this rhyme. A version that I couldn't shake:
Two for mirth,
Three for a wedding,
Four for a birth.
Five for silver,
Six for gold.
Seven for a secret, never to be told.
One is a message
Two is for mirth!
Three is a marriage,
Four is a birth.
Five is for riches
Six is a thief
Seven is a journey
Eight is a grief.
Nine is a secret
Ten is a sorrow
Eleven is for love,
Twelve is for joy tomorrow.
Thirteen is bad luck
Fourteen is danger,
Fifteen is a change of luck
Sixteen is a stranger.
Seventeen is for adventure
Eighteen is a love that's new,
Nineteen is fame and honor,
Twenty is a wish that comes true!
Seven is a Journey. And more than a secret, a journey is what I need. A journey under a traveling moon...
